On the final day of February, a press release from Sage surprised many in the technology world. The messaging was unclear other than to telegraph that two well-known technology companies were establishing a relationship. Part of that relationship was operational - Sage would leverage Salesforce for their internal solution for its thousands of team members worldwide. The other part of the relationship was related to providing Salesforce tools to make customers more successful. While not as big deal as the Salesforce-Microsoft announcement, many are now asking what these investments mean for the future of Sage CRM.
First, to Sage’s credit, they did effectively communicate to their customers and partners in North America that it is business as usual. In laymen’s terms this means that their commitment to Sage CRM as the integrated platform for their ERP products here and abroad has not effectively changed. Still, it did not alleviate concerns by many customers or partners about long term plans.
For Sage ERP customers considering a future CRM investment, the natural question arises, “Is Sage CRM or Salesforce the right application for my firm?”
